About Paws for Thought
Having had a privileged upbringing in the heart of the Ribble Valley as an only child, having a dog was my answer to having a sibling and my naivety never allowed me to believe that a dog could be treated in any other way than being loved like a sister with the freedom of the countryside.
Obviously, life experience has taught me otherwise. As I became more aware of how badly treated and used dogs were, my determination to do something about it grew.
From abuse, cruelty and neglect to fashion accessories, entertainment and family members, journalists have covered, reported and campaigned on many aspects of a dog’s life. Having researched into what is being done about the mistreatment of these amazing animals I was deeply saddened when the statistics showed that cases of abuse and neglect of dogs were still on the rise.
Evidence gathered showed that the abandonment and neglect of dogs often related to lack of preparation and information about the care and cost required when owning a dog.
Therefore Paws for Thought is designed to inform and educate those that are thinking of owning a dog for the first time.
In the midst of researching for the welfare of dogs, the loss of my 13-year-old beautiful, black lab, Gem, gave me the drive to continue to write about the unique and rewarding experience of providing for a dog as well as benefiting from their love and loyalty.
I hope that after reading this you will realise that the dog you are hoping to accommodate is not just a dog! It is another child that has feelings and that will love you unconditionally. It will remain loyal and faithful for a potential 15 years.
I hope that you find that perfect pooch for you as they will be your partner for the rest of its life.
