The park with your dog

Socialising your dog is a very important part to a dog’s life especially when they are young as this can help them grow up to be friendly as well as increasing their confidence around other dogs and also people.

Dogs are classed as a pack animal so keeping them isolated without socialising can cause behavioural issues.

Without social interaction, dogs are more likely to become shy and anxious around other dogs and this may lead to showing aggression.

It is also important that dogs are socialised from birth with human contact as this allows them to get used to you touching them and builds their confidence and trust.

There are lots of different ways to socialise your dog such as puppy training classes and doggy daycare however the easiest and cheapest way is going to a local park and allowing your dog to meet and play with other dogs freely.

Although it is a necessity for dogs to socialise, in order to do this, it is important to make sure that all puppies have had their vaccinations against catching diseases before they begin this interaction.

Not all dogs are friendly and willing to take part in social interaction, therefore, a usual sign to be aware of is when other dogs are kept on a lead.

If you feel unsure about the nature of a dog in the park, then it is worthwhile asking that dog’s owner if their dog is friendly as your dog could possibly pick up on your anxiety and become defensive.

Not only is walking your dog in a park good for the dog but it’s also good for you too; it’s a great way to meet new people, making walks more fun for both you and your dog.
